Jet engine bike passes test-fire trial ahead of speed record bid
Feb. 6 - British inventor Richard Brown has built a unique jet engine-powered motorbike, fitted with an afterburner, which he plans to drive at more than 700 kph (440 mph) to break the world land speed record. It will be Brown's second attempt, after trying but failing to beat the current record in 1999. Jim Drury reports.

Floating cities proposed as havens of future happiness
Feb. 3 - From Russia and the Middle East to western Europe and the United States, dissatisfaction with politics and politicians has led to protest, conflict and, in many cases, violence. But it doesn't have to be that way, according to a U.S. think-tank called The Seasteading Institute. Backed by wealthy donors, the non-profit group believes future peace and prosperity lies far out at sea. Ben Gruber reports.

Deadly pitcher-plant inspires super slippery nano-surface
Feb. 6 - Researchers at Harvard University have created a technology that makes almost any surface liquid-repellant. The scientists say their creation, inspired by a carnivorous lotus plant, could be adapted for a variety of uses, from water-proofing fabrics in the home to improving the efficiency of oil pipelines.
